After our Hostel experience, I realized there were some fabulous Airbnb locations that were around the same price and probably much quieter. One of these spots was located in Limerick on the west coast, on a farm called Glenstal Farm. It was run by a lively little family who just wanted to make some extra cash.
I have to admit, Dublin overwhelmed me and I was ready to leave after a day and a half. This farm was just the open countryside that I needed. It reminded me of our family ranch in Oklahoma. I kept saying that and Asa was a bit confused as to why I would compare Ireland to Oklahoma, all the cows maybe?
That night we went to a little, local pub called PaMcGraths. It was cozy with stools for seats and short barrels for tables. I was ecstatic to see a thatched roof. Before I came, I watched a movie from my childhood called the Secret of Roan Inish. It's an old movie about seals on an Irish island. In it, they fix up a small village of houses with thatched roofs...any hoot, I was overjoyed they were still relevant.
The next morning I took the host's suggestion and took a walk to a near by abbey. Turns out, I took a few wrong turns, but it lead to a delightful walk. I was so infatuated with the jungle-like terrain here, not what I was expecting, but so enchanting. It reminded me of the red wood forest.
I finally found the Abbey and was not disappointed.
The next day we traveled to the Burren National Park. There we went on a 5ish mile hike. The terrain was rocky and a bit moon-like. It was absolutely beautiful and should be put on your list of places to visit. Saturday we clocked, 10 miles.
Next time we have the cliffs of Moher!
