My Freshman Advice

Yeah! So I just finished my freshman year in May so I will be a sophomore in high school this year. I'm really excited and I learned a few things from freshman year that I wanted to pass on. I'm mostly talking to my Trinity girls but if you are going to go to another school you can take these tips there too!

First I want to let you know that you are going to have a blast in high school! It is so much fun and way better than middle school. Football games are a blast, homecoming is a highlight of the year and all the fun excitement in the air on freshman day is so fun! So if you are worried you won't have fun in high school well you can just go ahead and push that thought right out of your brain.

Now if you are worried you won't make friends in high school. That it so not true! It doesn't matter if you are miss social or miss wallflower. YOU WILL FIND YOUR GROUP. It's high school, there will always be someone you can relate to. Just keep an open mind to everyone. I know sometimes you will hear stuff about a girl so you don't want to be friends with her. Well hey people change from middle school so you should give everyone a chance.

So, now I want to talk about first day or freshman day. At my school they have a day just for the freshman to come, meet each other, learn more about the school and find out where their classes are. You will love this day! Its so fun and exciting! It is really helpful and packed with info. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE PICTURES! This goes for your whole high school. Just let your mom snap that picture of your every move on the first day. You will want to see those pictures later and maybe do a #through back Thursday in a few years!

I would say for freshman day and the first day of real school DON'T OVER DO IT. It send the wrong message. And what does "it" mean? Well I mean your hair and makeup and all that. I mean yes look nice! But don't pack on the makeup and hairspray so your hair is stiff. It's still school not homecoming! People (especially boys) will think the wrong thing of you if you do that and I don't want that to happen to you.

So lockers, I love having a cute locker! I'm actually going to do a locker post all about how I decorate mine and organization. But for now if you have never had a locker before let me just say its really fun and nice to have! If you can (and know what I'm talking about) then get those hanging shelve things. They are much better than the wire racks which are really wobbly.

So clothes, at my school we have uniforms so make sure you find out exactly what the rules are. They are really strict but you learn to accept them and appreciate them. I remember last year for the first like 3 weeks teachers will be a lot more understanding cause they know you are new and don't really fully know the rules. Also if you are going to hem or roll your skirt to make it shorter. Please do it tastefully or not at all! I remember last year some girls would hem their skirts and it would look ridiculous. Also if you roll it then only do it like once. If you do it more than 3 times you can tell and it looks again ridiculous. If your skirt really doesn't fit then just get a new one!

Lunch, at my school we have delicious lunches!! I mean wow they are good. But they are also really unhealthy. I would suggest yes getting some money on your lunch card, but then bringing your lunch every once in a while. Also with who to sit with at lunch, I know at Trinity the lunches are really packed so you will never sit alone even if you wanted to! Also don't be afraid to go up and sit with some sophomore, junior, or senior girls. People at Trinity are really nice and would love to sit with you! I know I would!!

Homework, all I have to say is make sure you stay on top of things. Use your planner and stay organized. If you have a study hall (which is really nice to have) then use your time wisely. Don't wait till the last minute to do things.

So in general I would say be kind to all, don't cause drama no one likes a drama queen. Boys are stupid so don't date freshman year. Yes you are a freshman and you will make embarrassing mistakes but hey we ALL did. Keep time for God, don't get so busy you don't have time for him. Get lots of rest you are going to need it! DON'T BE NERVOUS you will do great! Just be yourself and people won't be able to not love you. Remember who you are in Christ and stand firm in your faith and you will do amazing!

GET EXCITED! You could possibly be starting life long friendships, you could meet your future husband you never know! High school is a blast so enjoy the little moments because they go by so fast!

{I will be praying for all the new freshman so if you have a prayer request and if you would tell me when your first day of school is I would love to pray for you! I hope you have a wonderful time in high school!}
