This past weekend I went back to Scotland to visit my dear friend Lauren and her boyfriend Sam. It was a refreshing weekend to say the least! I was bummed after I had to change my departure flight to two days later because of a presentation I needed to be in class for. However, once I got there I ended up extending my trip by a day so it all worked out.
Lauren and I have been friends since my sophomore year of high school. She actually shadowed me when considering coming to Trinity. We were placed together because I attempted to run cross country and was in worship through music. I remember that day so vividly because she seemed so bashful and quiet, little did I know. I also remember that day getting in trouble in Mrs Peppers class for studying for my verse quiz for McFarren's class. Finally in 8th hour it was time to write out the verse and McFarren let Lauren help me. We nailed it. Also I remember Caroline Boesen couldn't remember Lauren's name so she kept calling her Sarah or something. I had no idea how influential this single human being would be in my spiritual life, confidence, and boldness.
This weekend was filled with brunches, life chats, meeting Lauren's Young Life, Church, roommate, and St Andrew's people, Indian food, hilarious YouTube videos, cliff walks, crying at the community God created for us, encouraging coffee chats, cooking, learning more about the man who has captured her heart and just soaking up the presence of LC.
I really discount how much a room and the vibe of a room can really change my mood. My room in Cork is very small and simple with four undecorated walls. It's functional but I have done absolutely nothing to make it feel like home. I was obsessed with Lauren's room filled with warmth, dried flowers, pictures, and a comfy bed. I could have stayed in that bed with the rain falling reading Harry Potter for days and yet I don't feel that way in Cork.
