Giants Causeway and Portrush

After sleeping a night in at an old turkey processing farm, we decided to get up early and get right into town. We drove to the highly recommended town or Portrush and ate a slow breakfast at Arcadia, while reading and watching the locals surf. This north coast is home to the Giants Causway, the famous rope bridge and some Game of Thrones filming locations.

After breakfast we made our way to Giants Causeway. It was underwhelming but free so we didn't complain. The legend is, a giant, Finn, was having trouble with someone in Scotland so he decided to walk across the sea to Ireland, he throws chunks of land from Scotland into the sea and it creates a walkway for him. These geometric, flat stones have been here for centuries and are a big mystery.

Asa LOVES getting his photo taken. I mean seriously always asking me to take it, posing just in case.

We stopped had a a little picnic consisting of the most random of foods. Hummus, cardboard crackers with cheese, salsa (more like tomato paste) cool ranch chips (thought they were regular tortilla chips), and lots of apples.

The rest of the day we spent in Portrush, doing laundry, hanging out at a pub, eating dinner then walking around the small town. We ate at the Harbour Bistro. I had the seafood thermador. It was probably one of the best meals of my life. You must go there if you're in the area.

The ocean was so clear and blue here. Back in Galway the water was nasty, I even thought about going for a swim.

When we arrived back at the couch surfing location another family was there that Corin was hosting. They were from Oregon and had sold everything, quit their jobs and bought a van they would live in and travel around for two years with their three kids. They were a hoot and a half.

Finally Corin showed up back from holiday. Imagine being gone for a month knowing strangers have been in your house and that when you get home you'll have 7 people you've never met to greet you.

Corin was a delightful human who told us about his hopes and dreams for his farm. He was a woodworker who was fixing up the farm house. He had dreams of creating a large barn to host even more couch surfers. In return they would help with small chores around the farm. There would be a community kitchen were the produce from the farm would be cooked and shared.  He also wanted to build a home for people with disabilities. Right now he teaches some people with disabilities wood working and described with tears in his eyes how cool it is to teach people how to create.

We spent the evening drinking hot chocolate laughing about living in a van, hearing Corin's hopes and dreams and learning about each others lives. It was beautiful and I didn't want to leave.
