Hello Hello! This past weekend I took a three hour bus ride to Dingle on the west coast with my roommate Morgan! I ended the trip with LOTS of pictures so I thought I would share a chunk of them. It's kinda nice traveling with someone that is always taking pictures of you haha at least for a blog purpose.
Everyone under the sun here, local and non, has told us to go to Dingle. I mean the name alone was reason to go. We lucked out on a beautiful day. Morgan skipped class Friday and I smartly didn't schedule classes then. When we showed up we took a taxi out to the peninsula. We are finding it a bit difficult when traveling about the reality of how far things are. You will be dropped off in town from the bus, but all the cool things to see are about 10 miles outside of town. Google is misleading.
All that to say, Dinlge did not disappoint. The taxi ride was filled with beautiful scenery and a passionate guide from our taxi driver pointing out in the town what it used to look like and how much it has changed. "And that farm yonder was where I was born, and this shed I used to milk the cows every Saturday, this neighborhood used to be a field where I took my first date....yada yada yada"
All I thought about was what a good life these sheep and cows have. Our poor sheep at my house have no idea how bad they've got it, or all the cows in Oklahoma...sorry.
On our walk to the beach we were inspired by both our siblings being seniors so we did a little senior photo shoot. I'd say Michelle Bankston should probably come to Dinlge for next years reps.
We made our way down to this beautiful beach. I did in fact walk in the water, and yes it was ICE cold, however I did suggest swimming to Morgan none the less. She said no.
After our high school senior photos (I don't have Morgans....sad day) we tapped into our middle school photography skills. The classic sunglasses reflection shot.
I took an opportunity to brush up on my skimp rocking climbing skills I picked up at K-State. I think I crushed a few snails (all the black on the rocks) in the process.
Apparently, some star wars was filmed here....toooooo bad I don't care.
After the beach we made our way up the hill toward the tip of the peninsula. I'm from Kansas so wind doesn't faze me, HOWEVER this wind was out. of. control. When I picked up my foot it would be immediately moved in the direction of the wind. nope.
We found refuge from the wind in this small hut. I told Morgan I wouldn't mind living in this tiny hut the rest of my life. She laughed at me then popped open her cider. A fresh drink after a long day of hiking is where it's at.
I googled where star wars was filmed and it's apparently here, but it looks completely different, so I'm not sure what happened there. Anyway the water was just stunning. I was pleasantly surprised to realize that Morgan and I liked to be in nature in the same way. Taking our time, sitting and breathing in the fresh air. When I'm in nature different worship songs come to mind. I love all the songs about oceans and waves that come to mind in a settings like this. "wave after wave, washes over me, washes over me, for you are for us you are not against us, champion of heaven...." what a beautiful reminder God's creation is of his character.
I did take a small nap in the sun. We found a spot hidden from the wind. I mean gosh that wind is exhausting.
Story time. While in our taxi we passed this cross. Our taxi driver stopped and said this. "You know when the French gave you the Statue of Liberty? Well they gave us this....so we hide it in Dingle. Imagine if this is what the US got and we got the Statue of Liberty."
True story.
Hilarious.
You made me laugh out loud...twice! Can I tell you how much more I love you for the Star Wars comment (no offense to all the friends who still think the Force is the real deal)?! ~Comrie
