PROM

My last high school dance, my senior prom. At my high school, homecoming is the fancy dance and prom is more relaxed with short dresses. I personally prefer prom which has a DJ instead of a band and games to play when you are tired of dancing (which I personally am never).  Staying with my commitment of not buying any clothes, prom would be no different. Throughout senior year my level of planning ahead and caring about unimportant things kept getting smaller and smaller. By the time a week before prom rolled around I had no dress, no date, and no plan. The week of prom I realized I needed to hunt down a dress to borrow.

I believe at one point I had around 20 dresses in my car from sweet friends who let me try them all on. They were all beautiful dresses but not something I really wanted to wear. I finally decided on wearing once again my incredibly fashion forward mother's clothing. I borrowed her light pink skirt from Banana Republic and borrowed a black off the shoulder shirt from my friend. I wore the shoes from last prom to complete the look. I felt like Audrey Hepburn and didn't regret my outfit for one second.

My friend Jane, the owner of the off the shoulder shirt, came to help me once again throw on some makeup and pull back my hair. Seeing as I never did my hair senior year, or wore makeup I was a bit out of practice. I believe the words I told her were, "Jake will be here in 30 minutes, I want to look like a flower child, go." She knew exactly what I meant and went straight to work. Let's just say Jake waited a bit before I was ready...oops. After my mane was pulled back we adventured outside to my mother's rose bushes to add the finishing touches. I was thrilled how the look came out and owe it all to Jane. My prom look came out to be exactly 0$. Jake and I once again decided to ditch the unnecessary corsage and boutonniere while our more creative friend decided to DIY it.

Because Jake is younger it was my duty to ask him to this dance. That was the one thing I did plan far in advance. I knew it had to be creative without a poster, something I had made fun of for many years. We both volunteer with Capernuam and I wanted to ask him at a place we hold dear to our hearts. Many brainstorming sessions were had on the varsity bench of soccer with my friend Lauren, knowing we would both never go in the game was helpful when planning. We had some good ideas, and some not so good ideas. But, eventually we ended with a very creative, goofy plan he would never see coming.

The short story was an easter egg hunt run by two old ladies (myself and Lauren) to play on the fact that I'm a cougar. 3 of the easter eggs held R. O. M. letters and I provided the last letter (P) which asked him to prom. He was slightly thrown off by the fact that I was an old lady and had a British accent, but he was definitely surprised and said yes.

The mastermind behind 4 of my dance's makeup and hair. My life long best friend and sister Jane. If you don't know her I'm surprised and I'm sure you will meet her in the next week.

Jake and his parents

I like to put Avery, Jakes sister, in my clothes to try to mess with Jake. People have mentioned to him we slightly look alike. He wasn't amused or thrown off....dang it.
