My
senior homecoming was a few weeks ago. Let's just say events in high school get
better each year. As a senior, you aren't intimidated by anyone and can be as
weird and crazy as you want. This was by far my favorite dance for so many
reasons.
Not
only did I get to dance the night away with my favorite guy :) I also had a
blast with beautiful friends and my little brother who is a freak on the floor
was there as well. Dancing is one of my top favorite activities, if you give me
any music slow or fast I will be dancing, heck I dance without music. I grace
the floor with a lot of original dance moves and a lot of unoriginal dance
moves. Okay maybe I don't grace the floor but I do take it.
This
year the total cost of my homecoming look was $3. I'm really proud of this
statement and wanted to talk about it a tad. Every year my parents told me they
would buy me a fancy dress senior year but to borrow or find a sale dress every
other year which I did. I looked forward to buying an expensive dress that fit
me perfectly and that I spend hours looking for. Then, God started working in
my heart on entitlement and I found the documentary "The True Cost"
and I knew I couldn't buy a dress. God had a cooler plan in mind then my
parents blowing a bunch of money and me feeling entitled to a new dress. I had
the privilege to wear my mother’s dress to my last homecoming. What's even
cooler is that she got it from her aunt after she passed so this dress is very
old. It fit very well and was so classy and beautiful. Every year I do my own
makeup and hair saving gobs of money. I did get my nails done but with a gift card
I received for Christmas. The three dollars spend was the tip for the nail
salon. I owned the shoes and accessories I wore. Never once did I regret not
buying a dress and spending so little on a big night. I enjoyed the night even
better knowing my dress had some meaning behind it. The fact that we think we
need to blow lots of cash for one night to have fun is bogus.
I
really wanted an Audrey Hepburn inspired look so I went with minimal makeup, a
sleek French twist and a black dress. A small winged eye liner and nude lip
helped keep the look simple yet elegant. My friend did my hair and
it couldn't have turned out more perfect.
Our
school also decided to have an alternate option for corsages
and boutonnieres this year. My friend and I realized how overrated
these flowers are and how people really don't care about them. You
have them for photos then take them off once you get to the dance. This year,
people gave the same amount they would for a flower in the place
they received friendship string. We made friendship bracelets for our
dates instead. We raised 1000$ for charity and I am so proud of everyone
who participated.
Jake and I attended two very chill after
parties one with Monsters Inc. playing and one with Jake playing soccer and me
sitting in the goal trying to not get hit. We ended the night at a friend’s
bonfire with fun friends and stars above. I was dead tired but was so full of
happiness.
