Fashion in Japan

Everyone in Japan was dressed very nicely. We would go to the airport, people were dressed up, the subway, a dumpy restaurant, you name it. There was never a place were I didn't see a woman in heels or a skirt. It was very refreshing to see that people here still cared about what they looked like that it just came as second nature. Even the men were dressed nicely. Though my sister did note that it was a more feminine style for the men which, we both agreed we didn't like. But, on the women I loved the more feminine style. They wore dresses and skirts a lot and I didn't see many pants. For my personal style I loved it and thought I fit in pretty well. But, if you are like my sister who likes more masculine dark, edgy things then you would stick out like a sore thumb.

The biggest trend there I would have to say would we the skirts with suspenders. I have a few examples above. They would wear them everywhere. Normally they would be paired with some black tights, booties and a tighter shirt. They wore pencil skirts and skater skirt types. You could find them just about anywhere. I hope these skirts come to America very soon. They were also mostly worn in black or a dark color probably to keep the outfit simple so they could jazz up the accessories.

The other very popular trend were beanies. As you can see in the first two pictures their beanies are more pointed then our flat topped ones. They wear them on the very top of their head so they kind of look like gnomes. They were worn mostly by the more masculine dressers and they would wear them with just about everything. Like the second picture even men would wear them. A lot of the beanies  I saw would say things like "New York" or "LA" much like American beanies.

The shoes that really seemed to be popular were really tall heels or cute little booties. There were also a lot of thigh high boots worn around. The other thing they would wear with their booties were thigh high socks. Like the outfit I wore for my thanksgiving outfit ideas post. Anything with a tall heel and they would be wearing it.

Black and white was huge. Just like the runways predicted. As you can see from pictures above they would wear black and white stripes, houndstooth, polka dots, checkers, everything. It was mostly tops that they would wear black and white on. I saw a lot of people pairing black and white striped shirts with a black skirt and tights. It looked really chic and I'm defiantly going to wear more black and white.

Another trend that I was really surprised at was that a ton of people were wearing Uggs or some kind of Ugg like boot. They only wore the short style. You could find them basically anywhere for as less as $9. I thought that only America still wore them but I guess I was wrong. They didn't really have a specific way of wearing them but they sure didn't wear them with Victories secret leggings and sweat shirt.

One very interesting style I saw was wearing a sweat shirt and a skater skirt. And for a necklace they would wear a big chain necklace. I thought it looked pretty cute but my sister said that it looked like they had most out their outfit picked out and then they couldn't find a shirt so they threw on a sweat shirt. All the sweat shirts they wore would say random things in English. Many of which didn't make any sense and were missed spelled. I also saw a few sweat shirt dresses which was very interesting to see.

If they weren't wearing a skirt with tights and booties then they were wearing some non denim shorts with tights and booties. I didn't once see a pair of denim shorts. But boy did I see every other kind of shorts. It was like they went to a huge winter sale for shorts and then forgot it was winter so they put on some tights. I still don't know if I like the whole tights and shorts thing but I think it grew on me on this trip.

I hope you enjoyed this post and a little look into Japanese fashion trends. I hope in a year you look back at this post and see that all these things will be in style. Why not wear them now and be ahead on the trends?
